KPN has started the transition from Digitenne to the new technical standard for digital Ethernet television, DVB-T2. This transition started from the beginning of October 2018, and is expected to be completed in phases, per region, in the Netherlands , no later than 1 January 2020.
This new DVB-T2 Digitenne standard, makes it possible, to compress images digitally. Because of this, more channels can fit on a certain frequency.
In addition, the higher bit rate offers the possibility to now offer terrestrial broadcast technology in HD quality.
The combination with HEVC, H.265, offers a higher efficiency and in addition more error control, thus allowing a more consistent image quality.
This required new hardware, with our Rebox DVB-T2 HEVC receiver as a result.
For KPN we have developed the RBX-2800 receiver, and for Online the ON-3001TZAP.
These DVBT2 HEVC receivers use an embedded cardless Irdeto decoding system, thus making the receivers suited for the complete Digitenne subscribers package.
BUT… if you do not want a subscription, and want to watch the NPO 1, 2, 3 and regional channel(s) free of charge and in HD quality, then we have this RE-2400DVBT2 Free to Air receiver made especially for those people.
ATTENTION: Belgium does not have a DVB-T/T2 network, so this receiver can’t be used there!
